RECENT LOSSES IN THE CHURCH FAMILY

Judy Sebelius, 78, died Saturday, June 8, 2019. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13 in the Trippeer Chapel at Idlewild. Judy joined Idlewild in 1971. For many years she was active with the Presbyterian Women’s Lydia and Ruth circles. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Hale and Carolyn Kirk, four grandchildren. Please keep all her loved ones in prayer. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

Lloyd Edward Nelson, 80, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019. Arrangements will be posted on the Member News page when available. Lloyd and his wife Terry came to Idlewild about 15 years ago from Whitehaven Presbyterian. They have not been able to attend regularly for some time. Please keep his loved ones in your prayers.  Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

James Fraser Humphreys Jr., 93, died Monday, May 6, 2019. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, with services to follow at 1:30. Fraser had been a church member for more than 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lee Humphreys; his children, Rick Humphreys, Fraser Humphreys, and Beth Moore; and his grandchildren, Hayly Schmidt and Fraser IV, Libby, Jim, Sam, and Mary Margaret Moore. Please remember his family in prayer.

Emily Bailey Carothers, 76, died April 20, 2019. Emily joined the church in 2007. She was active in the Knitting Circle (tied the prettiest bows), served on the Community Support Committee, and was a member of the Covenanters Sunday school class. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Helms, her daughters, Kendrick Simpson and Anna Carothers, and her granddaughters, Sloan Simpson and Alexanna Scott. Please remember her loved ones in prayer. 

Gayden Rasberry "Sissy" Jones died April 13, 2019. She was 82 years old. Sissy joined Idlewild in 1970 and was a member of the Timothy Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Rebekah and Trezevant Circles. Her husband, Walk Jones, died in 1998. She is survived by her children, Anne Marie Caskey Day, Julie Caskey, Will Jones, Mark Jones, Walk Jones, IV; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild with another on the way. 

Nola McKnight, 99, died April 11, 2019.  Service arrangements are pending. Nola had been a church member since 1950. She was especially active with Presbyterian Women and the Lydia and Ruth Circles. After her husband Tom’s death in 2014, she moved to Virginia to live with her children.

Jean Williamson Sights died March 18, 2019. She was 98 years old. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25 at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. Jean grew up on Evergreen, where the church playground is now. She and her husband Jere, who died in 2009, joined in 1955 and raised their family in the church. Jean was dedicated to her work with Presbyterian Women and the Trezevant and Hannah Circles, and was presented with a Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership Award in 2004. She is survived by three children, Matt Sights, Billy Sights and Flo Sares, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Please remember her loved ones in prayer. 

Svend Bondo Nielsen, 91, died Tuesday, February 17, 2019. Memorial services were held Friday, March 1. Svend was active in the church choir during the 1960s. He is survived by his children, Karen Scatamacchia, Eric Bondo Nielsen, and John Christian Nielsen; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Please remember his loved ones in prayer. .

Mary Lou Adams, 91, died Friday, February 8, 2019. We give thanks for the grace and mercy God gave her which she shared with everyone. Mary Lou grew up in our church. Many will remember her as cheerful greeter, welcoming all who entered, and graciously helping wherever needed. She served on countless committees, was a member of the prayer chain, and was instrumental in creating the columbarium in the garth. She was a Presbyterian Women Lifetime Member, having been a moderator, Bible moderator, and Hannah Circle leader. In 1968, Mary Lou was one of the first three women elected to a ruling body of Idlewild, the Diaconate. In 1974, she was one of the first women ordained as an Elder. She was a Trustee Emeriti. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Adams Hughston (Harold), Lou Adams (Connie), and Michael Adams (Cathy), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many more family and friends. Bill Carrington Jones, 86, died Sunday, January 13, 2019. Bill had been an Idlewild member for more than 40 years and served as an elder of the church. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; two children, Margaret Fraser (Hugh) and Mason Carrington Jones (Sybil); four grandchildren, Sara, Will, Ivy, and Austin; and a sister, Lucy Carrington Jones. Please remember his family and friends in prayer.

Livija Duks Rutkowski, 89, died Monday, December 24, 2018. Livija joined Idlewild in 1989, was active in Presbyterian Women and belonged to the Hannah, Ruth, and Rebekah circles at different times over the years.  She created our baptismal tree ministry several years ago.  A tree sapling is given to baptismal families to plant and watch grow as their child grows in faith. Livija is survived her children, Sylvia Wilson (Rick), Louise Allen (Ray), and Mark Rutkowski (Debbie), her grandchildren, Sam, Marion, and Nathan Allen and Rachel and Max Wilson, and many more family and friends. Please remember her loved ones in prayer.

The Reverend Dr. Denton McLellan Jr., 83, died Monday, December 10, 2018. Services will be Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Germantown Presbyterian Church. Denton served as Idlewild’s Associate Pastor from 1969 to 1973, when he became pastor of Germantown Presbyterian. In 2005, he returned to Idlewild as Parish Associate. We are ever grateful for his dedication to the work of God.Denton is survived by his wife, Mary Allie Baldwin McLellan, and many more family and friends. Please remember his loved ones in prayer.

Wendi Leigh Allan, 49, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. Wendi is survived by her husband, Roger, and son, Kade. Please keep all her loved ones in your prayers.

Joseph Newton Fisher, 86, died November 20, 2018. Joseph was a faithful servant of the Lord and joined Idlewild in 1984. He was an ordained deacon and elder and Sunday School teacher. He served on the Adult Ministry and Clean Water committees and twice as the chair of the Worship & Music committee. He is survived by his wife, Anne; three children, Gregory Fisher, Michelle Fisher, and Kate Fisher Higgins; two step-children, Elizabeth Thrasher Kantor and Anne Thrasher Lloyd; and six grandchildren.

Martha Ann Duncan, 75, died November 16, 2018. Martha was married to her husband, Jerry, for 25 years. In addition to Jerry, she is survived by their children: Courtnay Shepherd, Colli King, Ashley Duncan, Donna Duncan, and Marshall Duncan. Please remember all her family and friends in prayer. 

William Dustin Lemley, 40, died September 24, 2018. Services were held September 27 at Idlewild Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow. Dusty joined the church in 2016. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wilder Lemley, who is the daughter of Bob and Lisa Wilder. Please remember his family in prayer. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

Frederick Franklin Watkins, 91, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Fred and his wife Joanne came to Idlewild in 2005, after moving from Knoxville. Recent, they have not been able to attend church regularly. Fred both a deacon and an ordained elder of the church. Please remember Joanne, their daughter, Sheryl Holbrook, and all their loved ones in prayer.

Arthur Stanford, 93, died August 30, 2018. Memorial services were held Monday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Ripley, Mississippi. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Please remember his family in prayer. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

Jean Langhart James, 92, died August 20, 2018. Jean had been a member since 1977. She loved music. When she became unable to attend church, she still liked to receive the Sunday bulletins so she could follow worship services. She is survived by her daughter, E.J. Baird, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Please remember them in prayer.

Henry W. Jones Jr., 88, died August 19, 2018. Henry grew up in our church and was confirmed at age 11. He was an ordained elder and a trustee emeritus, and throughout his life had served in many ministry areas. He was also a member of Covenanters Sunday school class. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three children, Hank Jones, Caroline Winters, and Dot Hammons; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Please remember all his loved ones in prayer. 

Lee Brown, 47, died Friday, July 13, 2018. Lee has been an active church member since 2007. He was especially involved with More Than A Meal. Please remember all his friends and loved ones in prayer.

Shirley Seagle Prothro, 94, died June 11, 2018. Arrangements will be posted on the Member News page when they are finalized. Shirley had been a faithful member since 1983, although she had not been able to attend church in recent years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women Lydia Circle for many years. She is survived by her niece, Shirley Turner, and her nephew, Bill Pritchard. Please remember them in prayer.

Julie Worth Sprunt, 94, died June 10, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Idlewild, with a reception to follow. Julie had been a faithful church member since 1954. She was presented with a Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership in 1992 and was still involved with the Trezevant Circle. She is survived by cherished nieces and nephews and many friends. Louise Cunningham, 72, died Saturday, June 2, 2018.  A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at Idlewild. Louise joined the church in 1982. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, and a son, Chad (Sophie). Please remember her loved ones in prayer. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

June McCormick, 90, died Sunday, May 27, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Idlewild Presbyterian Church. A faithful member since 1954, June was active in the Presbyterian Women Trezevant Circle. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Wood (Malcolm), Anne Covington (Stansill), and Jane McHann (Phillip), seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many loved ones. Shirley Wilkes McRae, 84, died peacefully May 18, 2018, after an extended illness. Memorial services were held May 25 at Memorial Park. Shirley joined the church in 2004. She had been a member of the Faith and Function class and previously served as a Peacemakers convener. Shirley was a professor emerita at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis, where she taught for 25 years. She was one of the leading writers of children’s music in the country, and we have often used her music in worship. She is survived by her two children, Teresa and Stephen. Carol Anne Davis, 80, died February 14, 2018. The family had a private graveside service. Other arrangements will be posted as they become available. Anne came to Idlewild from Whitehaven Presbyterian Church in 2005. Please remember her loved ones in prayer.

Elsie Yeates, 97, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Idlewild. A reception will follow. In her many years at Idlewild, Elsie served as an elder, Monday morning flower deliverer, Adopt-A-School tutor, member of Clean Water Committee, and more. In 1999, she was presented with a Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership for her involvement and dedication, and she was still active in the Trezevant PW circle. Her husband, Zeno, died in 2005. She is survived by her three children, Ames, Arthur and Laura; her grandchildren, Dana Atyia, Lanier Yeates, Dean Atyia, Zeno Yeates, Harvey Fulton, Peter Fulton, and Winnie Yeates; and many more friends and loved ones. 

Lewis "Lewie" R. Donelson III died Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was 100 years of age. Lewie grew up in the church was a faithful servant of God his entire life. He was a ruling elder, a deacon, a church trustee emeriti, a dedicated volunteer, and a beloved Sunday School teacher of the LeMaster Class, which met for more than 50 years.  Lewie was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jan. He is survived by his children Lewis IV, Janice and Loring, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
