Your First Visit

What to expect in Sunday Morning Worship

Sunday worship services at Idlewild are at 8:30 a.m. in the Trippeer Chapel and 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. The services last approximately one hour. Click here to read about our worship service.

What should I wear?

Visitors are sometimes concerned about what to wear. Idlewild is not a particularly formal church—there is no Sunday dress code! Some men wear jackets and ties, some wear khakis. Some women wear dresses, some wear slacks. Just dress comfortably but respectfully.

If you have children...

Children of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in worship services. On Sunday mornings, nursery care is available to infants and toddlers. Children ages 3-5 can go to Children's Church Continued (C3) extended care during the second part of the 11:00 worship services, following “Time with the Younger Church”). Click here for more about Sunday morning children's programs and nursery care.

Sunday School Classes

Church school classes are 9:40-10:40 Sunday morning. Nursery care is provided for infants. During renovation of the Jones Building, most classes are meeting in the Sanctuary Building.

What about communion?

The invitation to the Lord’s Supper is extended to all who desire to follow Christ, remembering that access to the communion table is not a right conferred upon the worthy, but a privilege given to the undeserving who come in faith, repentance, and love.  Even one who has doubts or whose trust is wavering is invited to the table in order to be assured of God’s love and grace in Christ Jesus.

Idlewild celebrates the Lord's Supper in the 8:30 service every Sunday and in both services on the first Sunday of the month. If you do not feel comfortable receiving communion, just remain in your seat (if people are going forward) or pass the tray to the next person (if communion is being served in the pews).
